Anne Castro for Dania Beach City Commission

It has been my profound pleasure and honor to serve on the City of Dania Beach Commission for the past three years. Even though we have accomplished many things in the last three years, there is still much to do! I am once again asking for your support and your vote to allow me to continue the progress we’ve made and I promise to continue the hard work and dedication that I have demonstrated for the past three years. I will continue to represent everyone in the city on all issues, no matter how small or large.

Again, my background in law, accounting, operations, and management has provided the necessary tools to develop a comprehensive plan and vision for the city, build consensus, and make it happen! And it is finally happening.

The city is passing through a crossroad in its 100-year history. We’re finally making progress in the redevelopment of our downtown area with the construction of a new library, the purchase of a parcel adjacent to city hall for a parking garage, as well as the hiring of a new redevelopment director. We’re currently amending our CRA plan in order to leverage funds for development as well as build comprehensive plans for some of the surrounding neighborhoods. We’ve implemented the neighborhood improvement bond adding lighting to several neighborhoods as well as adding sidewalks and traffic calming devices! We have re-acquired the marina down by our beach, and continued to build a framework to encourage economic and capital redevelopment.

We have improved our City’s reputation with the citizens, other local governments, business community, and vendors by keeping our promises and establishing policies that will move the City and the interests of its residents forward. We have created a framework in which everyone is treated equitably and fairly.

However, we continue to face the threat of encroachment on our neighborhoods by the proposed extension of the South runway. We must continue to be vigilant in the protection of our residents and our City! We also have a tremendous challenge with our budget in light of the impending property taxes cuts. We need to ensure we continue our trend of lowering taxes, while preserving services and quality of life for our residents! These matters continue to require comprehensive solutions and leadership that will be critical to the success and survival of the City of Dania Beach. I believe I have demonstrated that I have the necessary leadership qualities to continue facing and reaching more successful solutions to these as well as any new challenges facing our citizens and city.
